This past week in Spokane at the regional TYCA conference at Spokane Community College, Dodie Forrest of Yakima and Janet Lucas of Peninsula, both active writing center folks, were given this year's Lisa Ede Awards for Outstanding Teaching. Speech! Speech!
Here's a blurb about the award:
Thanks so much for the hospitality the folks in Ellensburg extended to everyone at this year's conference. The Evergreen staff have been contacting me and posting on our Moodle site with their insights from the Conference.
Hosting an event of this magnitude requires a herculean effort on top of the regular day-to-day operations of a writing center staff and PNWCA Board. The Evergreen Writing Center staff and I are grateful to Teresa and all the folks at Central and to the members of the PNWCA who made this year's event memorable, inspiring, and CENTRAL to our on going work.
Like many others this morning I am sifting through many thoughts from the conference, happy to have been there and, though I am tired now, looking forward to implementing several new ideas I picked up this weekend. I also continue to be grateful for everyone's contributions to the gathering and to feel honored to be part of this terrific group.
Many thanks to Ann Harrington and all the people who helped her put on such a great conference. The writing center alums inspired us at Friday' pre-conference, and Shanti Bruce got us off to a lively start on Saturday for our rich day of sessions and conversations. Though it takes a tremdendous amount of dedication and work to pull off such an event, Ann and her group made it seemingly move along effortlessly.
Thanks also to everyone who participated in our election of new PNWCA Board Members. The following people were elected to new 2-year terms:

Dear PNWCA 08 Guests,
Greetings from the Writing Center at Everett Community College, host to the 5th Annual PNWCA Regional Conference, “Are We Having Fun, Yet?” We can’t believe that all our planning and anticipation is almost over. We are looking forward to welcoming all of you next Friday and Saturday, April 25 and 26th.
Here are a few program details:
Larry Nichols from Seattle U. will lead a panel discussion of Writing Center Alums in a pre-conference workshop, 4:00-6:00 pm on Friday, April 25, in the Parks Building.
I am writing to invite you to attend our upcoming tutor training workshop entitled "Working With ELL/ESL Students". The workshop aims to:
1) Provide tutors with a stronger understanding of the experiences, characteristics, and/or needs of our campus' immigrant and international student populations.
2) Explore practical strategies tutors can use when working with ELL/ESL students and grammar-related issues.
